This article covers updating the longtime OneDrive for work or school sync client (Groove.exe), not the OneDrive sync app (OneDrive.exe). Which sync client am I using? The OneDrive sync app is updated automatically as specified by your IT department.
If you see the Update Options button and the message This product will not be updated, you installed the Microsoft 365 applications through Click-to-run, but automatic updates are turned off. This means Microsoft 365 applications, including OneDrive for work or school, are not being updated. Choose the Update Options button, then choose Enable Updates.

The latest version released to the update ring is higher than what's installed on the computer. If the installed version is too old to be updated to the current version, the sync app will first be updated to the minimum version within the ring.

I really don't care if the file lives on OneDrive or a network location but my understanding is storing it on a network location isn't a feature provided in my E3 license. I just need the same file updated every time this email arrives.

But Microsoft is not the only company that has been slow to update its cloud platform to run natively on M1. Dropbox released a beta version of its macOS app with Apple Silicon support earlier this year, and it has yet to be made available to the public. As for Google Drive, it was updated with M1 support in October 2021.
At Build 2017, Joe Belfiore announced that the new OneDrive Files On-Demand feature will be delivered with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. And today, we are excited to announce that OneDrive Files On-Demand is rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring who are on Build 16215. The updated OneDrive client will be rolling out over the next few days but can also be installed from here.
When your computer starts, the OneDrive app checks local files and compares them with information from the cloud. Using this, the app can download updated or new files from the cloud or upload files from your drive. In fact when you try to open a file at any time from OneDrive that 'check' to see where the latest version is, happens in the background before the file is presented to you.
The Desktop Sync client allows for files saved on Drexel OneDrive also to be available on a local computer. This application will constantly run on your computer to keep your Drexel OneDrive updated in real-time.
Published in MC298387 (November 16, Microsoft 365 roadmap item 83728) and now rolling out to Office 365 tenants worldwide, Microsoft has updated the OneDrive for Business sharing link dialog to make it easier for users to change the sharing link settings before copying them to share with others. Roll out should complete between mid-December (targeted release tenants) and mid-January (standard release tenants).
Does onedrive get patched with Windows Update? If so I would use an OS layer. If not would use an App Layer. Only put something in a platform alyer if it wont work anywhere else or it modifies the WMI schema or integrates with Window's Logon Providers.
Whilst the above responses may have been helpful in other situations they were not for me (as with many other "solutions" proffered elsewhere). So I took another route. Look at how OneDrive may have been disabled. The following post was my saviour ( -or-uninstall-onedrive-completely-in-windows-10/). I simply reversed the process (ie. "disabled" Prevent the Usage...) and back came my Onedrive. Simple as that! Hope that helps others who may have been as exasperated as I was.Cheers,David
What seems to happen for me is that, after a Windows 10 update, the OneDrive.exe file is removed from the c:\users\myusername\appdata\local\microsoft\onedrive folder (obviously myusername is whatever your own username is).
If you copy this into the c:\users\myusername\appdata\local\microsoft\onedrive folder you can restart OneDrive from the Start menu and all is OK. No resyncing of all your files is needed. Quick and easy. Works every time for me.

I use office 365 for my work, with access to microsoft teams, sharepoint, and onedrive for business. The issue I am facing is that the documents are not synced between my onedrive and teams/sharepoint. I have to manually add or sync every document between the two platforms.
